simplified and hard to completely explain. This is certainly
not a new concept in healing. For centuries the Native Americans
have always shown reverence to the connection between man and
nature. What is finally happening is our modern society is opening
it's eyes to alternative healing techniques. In a world of high
tech medicine, which certainly has an important role in health
care, we are amazed when we find a therapy so pure and basic
as horticultural therapy, to be so beneficial. Horticultural
therapy is one of the very few healing processes in which the
mind, body and spirit are being restored simultaneously. However,
all horticulture activities are not horticultural therapy, just
as gardening done by someone who happens to be disabled is not
necessarily therapeutic gardening-, or for a robust person walking
is not considered physical therapy.
Horticultural therapy is a healing element used
to help those lives that have been disrupted by illness, injury,
social and economic problems, psychological and development disorders,
as well as the aging process.
Horticultural therapy programs are designed to
help these individuals improve their abilities to do tasks, and
improve their capabilities and help them cope with the changes
that have occurred sometimes unexpectedly, in their lives. |
